Of Jack Neo & His Movies

Speaking of Jack Neo, I think most of the Malaysia do know who he is, right?

Jack Neo Chee-Keong (born 24 January 1960), PBM, credited as Jack Neo on screen, is a Singaporean film and television actor, host and director. He is best known for his cross-dressing roles, as Liang Po-Po (literally: Granny Liang) in the 1999 film Liang Po Po: The Movie and as Liang Ximei in the late 1990s TV show Comedy Night.

Of course, who would forget “Money Not Enough” when it was released in 1998? Wow, i was just 7 that time ! The film is about three friends with various financial struggles, who start a car polishing business together. The story line is so original, and the language is funny, especially during that time (and especially when I’m only 7!)

And then, the Liang Po Po came out in 1999, another one movie that stuck into most of the teenager’s brain (I think? No?). Well maybe just my school lah, everyone was talking about the movie that time. Do you still remember the “wuu wuuu wuu” ? Haha! But, watching that again, I don’t feel funny anymore, maybe the humor just work for that era, or maybe, I’m a grown up already. Anyhow, the movie is still one of the classic from Jack Neo.

And then, also one of Jack Neo’s famous film, “I Not Stupid” released in 2002. That’s one of the movie that touched a lot’s heart and that’s the kind of movie that really speaks out what really happening, among parents and their expectation to their son.

The film portrays the lives, struggles, and adventures of three Primary 6 pupils who are placed in the academically inferior EM3 stream (which, as a result of parliamentary debates following the release of the film, was abolished in 2008). This satirical comedy criticises the Singaporean education system and social attitudes in Singapore, including the competitive kiasu (fear of losing) mentality and over-obedience to authority.

I used to feel so motivated after watched the movie but it only lasts for err.. 2 weeks? Ok maybe just 7 days。:P

Then in 2004 there’s this The Be$t Bet,

The film portrays the lives, struggles and adventures of three friends who are addicted to gambling. They place a joint 4D bet; when they win, one is tempted to keep all the winnings to himself. This satirical comedy touches on gambling addiction and the consequences of one’s actions.

Now in my opinion, that’s where the movie starting to get “lame” instead of funny. There’s still a few funny scene but most of it, I don’t really like it at all.

I not stupid too (2).

I Not Stupid Too portrays the lives, struggles and adventures of three Singaporean youths—15-year-old Tom, his 8-year-old brother Jerry and their 15-year-old friend Chengcai—who have a strained relationship with their parents. The film explores the issue of poor parent-child communication.

TO be honest, I don’t remember any scene from this movie, at all. Maybe it’s …. not interesting??

Just Follow Law (2007)

In the film, a blue-collar technician and the events and promotion department director swap souls after a freak accident at a fictional government agency Work Allocation Singapore (WAS). It presents a satirical look at the inflexibility of outdated governmental rules and regulations and the rigid mindsets of local civil servantswho follow rules to a fault is portrayed.

Actually, another boring, lame, movie.

Ah Long Pte Ltd (2008)

Boring, boring, lame, stupid, not funny, boring story line. But eh, I like the Mini cooper part if you know what I’m talking about. Haha

Money No Enough 2 (2008)
Man.. I’m running out word to write.. because.. there’s nothing interesting about this anymore… NO..

Love Matters (2009)

BORING!!!!

Where got ghost (2009)

This is kinda interesting, The film is made up of three omnibus horror tales laced with Singaporean humour. In sequence, they are “Roadside Got Ghost”“Forest Got Ghost” and “House Got Ghost”. But most of the stuff are, “predicted”

And now, the latest Being Human (2010)

This is such a bigg disappointment, boring story line, boring character, boring jokes, lame jokes, what happened to the original funny Jack Neo?

Or maybe he’s never funny before…

Just my two puluh sen.
